Fugitive or unfairly prosecuted?

http://www.smh.com.au/world/fugitive-thai-leader-adopted-by-cambodia-20091105-i09s.html

On Wednesday, King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia officially announced the appointment of Thaksin Shinawatra as a senior government adviser. An action to most likely cause conflict between Thailand and Cambodia.

Thaksin Shinawatra was prime minister of Thailand from 2001 to 2006. Shinaeatra has been living outside of Thailand by choice after he was expelled in a 2006 military plot. Shinawatra had been accused of corruption and insulting the country's constitutional monarch. Last year, Shinawatra was sentenced to two years in prison for violating a conflict of interest law.

Many officials of Thailand believe that Shinawatra is attempting to weaken the government in order to regain power and control. "The strategy Thaksin is using, I call it "crashing." He is destroying everything in his path to reach his goal." - Sompop Manarungsan. Many Cambodian officials believe that Shinawatra was unjustly prosecuted and convicted for political reasons.

Maybe the Cambodian officials have a point. Not everything done in Shinawatra's term was corrupt. Shinawatra was Thailand's first prime minister to serve a full term, he launched social welfare policies, introduced the nation's first healthcare program, began extreme drug abolition campaigns, and his re-election had the largest voter turnout in Thai history.

Fox News V.S The White House

  • "Obama has over and over again exposed himself as a guy who has a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture." - Glenn Beck, Fox News
  • "It's opinion journalism masquerading as news." - Anita Dunn, W.H communications Director
  • "Let's not pretend they're a news organization like CNN is" - Anita Dunn, W.H communications Director
  • "Mr. Murdoch has a talent for making money, and I understand that their programming is geared toward making money...It's really not news- it's pushing a point of view." - David Axelrod, Senior W.H adviser
  • "Surprisingly, the White House continues to declare war on a news organization instead of focusing on the critical issues that Americans are concerned about like jobs, health care and two wars." - Michael Clemente, Senior vice president of Fox news

-This is the endless battle between The White House and Fox news.

Last week, the battle continued when the W.H Communications Director, Anita Dunn spoke out about Fox news on CNN's "reliable Sources". She affirmed that "Fox had become an arm of the Republican party."(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AEt180Wnls&feature=related) Glenn Beck of Fox news fired back, criticizing a speech Ms. Dunn made last June that quoted Mao Zedong and Mother Teresa. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w35J_KELq6E)

In my opinion, this feuding is all a waste of time. The United States is a democratic nation; Citizens are entitled to their own opinion. It is important to understand that any news can be biased, opinionated and miss leading (Fox news especially). Therefore it is more beneficial to attain facts from multiple resources. I believe that Obama is doing a wonderful job in leading the United States of America. If the individuals at Fox news feel differently than they can vote for another political party at the next election.

Human Smuggling Suspected - 76 Aboard

http://www.nationalpost.com/news/story.html?id=2117220
Late Friday afternoon, the RCMP took charge of a rusting coastal freighter; believed to be involved in human smuggling. The vessel, seized just off the west coast of Vancouver Island, carried seventy-six men. Possibly from Sri Lanka. Saturday afternoon, the vessel was directed to a harbour at Ogden Point in Victoria, where the passengers were evacuated three at a time. The passengers were not handcuffed or binded being that they are being processed under the Immigration and Refugee Act. Their identity was protected from the media and bystanders that gathered along the shore.

This is much more than an individual wishing to finer their employment and lifestyle opportunities. It is one conspiring to escape prosecution against war crimes. Earlier this year marked the end of the Sri Lankan Civil War. For over two decades the rebellion of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Ealam (LTTE) against the Sir Lankan government caused an overwhelming affliction among the population. The strategies utilized by LTTE resulted in them being labelled as a terrorist organization.

My questions are, how many of those seventy-six undocumented immigrants have connection to the LTTE? And if they had success in entering our country illegally, what would they do to it?
